Makes Me Want to Take a Back Road

I made an impromptu visit to my parents' this past weekend. Just because I missed being home. I had told myself that I was tired of all the traveling I've done in the last two months, which meant I was going to stay put in Newport this weekend. But sometimes a gal wants to see her mom and dad {and puppy}.

When I'm at home, my mother and I often take long walks around the backroads surrounding our house. It's a time for us to catch up, talk about life, and laugh all while climbing the hills and dodging speeding cars out for an early morning drive. Pepper has started joining us for girl-time walks {I never knew our bow-legged puppy was such a little athlete}.These little adventures are one of my favorite things about being home.

The beautiful foliage this time of year doesn't hurt either.

New England, I love you.

On Vineyard Time

I love the end of summer the best. Things aren't quite so crazy and hectic as they are in the height of the season. People are starting to slowly trickle back to their homes and "real" life. These are the weekends I love spending time venturing into the charming spots along the Cape and the Islands without the throngs of tourists.

In August, my mother and I found ourselves on the ferry over to Martha's Vineyard for a long-overdue visit. It was the most beautiful day spent poking around shops and backroads, enjoying the sunshine and drinking a few too many glass of wine or two. It was the ideal mother-daughter bonding day. Nothing could have been better. Ma and I even showed up color coordinated. Proof that you inevitably turn into your mother at the ripe age of 25.

Wine Time (Part 1)

One Two Three weekends ago, my friend Kimberly came to visit me on the Cape. It was a cloudy, cool morning, so what better way to warm up than go to a wine tasting? Cape Cod is home to Truro Vineyards, a little winery with abundant charm! It is one of my favorite places to bring guests and friends. We had a perfectly lovely afternoon with a tour of the grounds, tasting 10 different wines, and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.

I think all Saturday afternoons should be spend at a vineyard :)
